As my grandmother used to say: "If you are late, that means you do not respect someone else's time. And time is important, yours as well as others."
And I was like: "Bah! 5, 10, 15 minutes, that's nothing! How can such little time be so important? That's too much drama over just a few minutes. No one cares about that!"
I was hopelessly late throughout my life - for classes, exercises, dates with boys - always and forever.
But on the day of my university graduation, I was on time! I was, but everyone else wasn't - the irony of life. The weather was horrible. Rain was pouring for hours, the wind was blowing heavily. All in all, chaos! Everybody was texting me about how they will be late.
It was weird at first, even though I knew that they all had a perfectly reasonable explanation for it. Just like I never did.
Everyone was late except her, my grandmother. I have no clue how she did it on a day like that. But she did! She was there, and she brought a watch for me.
"This is for you. You don't have to wear it. I know you do not like watches, but still - have it."
From that day forward, I was never late. In fact, most of the time, I was a few minutes early. Because time is important, your's as well as someone else's.
